Celebrating the "Best Job in the world" having its home here right here in the Whitsundays, SKAL Whitsundays has taken the initiative and applied to be named the best SKAL club of 2009.

Numbering almost 50, the local SKAL club has grown from single digit numbers just 18 months ago to now have a diverse representation of business owners and managers from the local tourism. Already boasting involvement by mayor, Mike Brunker, Peter O'Reilly from Tourism Whitsundays and local business identity, Lyn Gregson, SKAL Whitsundays has recently received an influx of new members. John Nayler from ChannelWhitsunday.com and Andrew Keating, General Manager of Daydream Island are amongst the ranks of new members.

On the 8 September 2009, the club met at Barracudda's Oyster Bar and Grill for the monthly luncheon and to produce a application video to secure the best SKAL club of 2009. Themed around the "Best Job In The World" campaign, those at the lunch donned Whitsunday formal attire, ie mask, snorkel and fins to parade in front of cameras. This makes a notable connection between the competition, the Whitsundays and the 35,000 application videos created by people around the world. It is estimated that over 40% of the serious video applications for the best job contained people doing various things in snorkel gear including parading through Rome, jumping into icey lakes and playing chicken in grid locked traffic.

The finished video is now on its way to Budapest for judging at the world conference to be held in early October 2009.

The SKAL organisation is a service club based in the tourism industry with thousands of member's worldwide. The membership is strictly for the tourism industry with people making connections locally or as they travel the world to foster relations and discuss common issues amongst associates and friends. Due to the size and depth of the network an additional benefit is access to the best deals and otherwise unobtainable experiences.

The local club meet monthly with the opportunity to rub shoulders with industry heavyweights, discuss local matters in the relaxed atmosphere of a local restaurant. The local constituents are known for their relaxed nature, good humour and drinking in moderation.

As a tourism manager or business owner you should consider joining for the various benefits. You can find out more at their web site, www.skalwhitsundays.com.
