The Whitsundays, in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef,
is the jewel in the tourism crown of Australia. With 74 or
more islands just 15 kilometres off shore and reefs of
the Great Barrier a further 20 km, no other destination
in Australia can boast the natural beauty or diversity
of this island paradise. Protected above and below the
water by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority in
consultation with traditional owners, the Ngaro People,
just a handful of islands feature a range of resorts to
suite every budget.
On the mainland is the tourist town of Airlie Beach. This
small township is focal point of Skal Whitsundays, where
active Tourism business owners and managers are involved
in the
development of tourism assets, networks and the success
of the region.
